Our history

From Century City, NewTel supports small offices with fibre and VoIP services. The team works with businesses in Cape Town and across South Africa that need dependable calling and internet for daily operations.

A small team with a practical idea

Based in Century City, Cape Town, NewTel focuses on offices that need clear advice, stable voice services and business connectivity. The team supplies fibre, VoIP and networking for firms that want fewer suppliers managing critical communication.

From the first year, Lungile Mthembu set the tone for the company. The work was hands-on and local, with early projects in Cape Town, Bellville and the northern suburbs. The aim was never to chase volume for its own sake, but to build a service that a small business could count on when the phones had to ring and staff had to keep working.

Building the core services

As more offices asked for help, NewTel added structure around the services that mattered most: fibre installation, VoIP deployment and phone system support. This was the period when the company refined its way of working, from site surveys and planning to tidy installations and proper handover. It also became clear that many clients wanted one supplier who could manage both voice and data, not two or three different teams arriving at different times.

  • Fibre installations for small offices that needed steadier speeds
  • VoIP deployment for clearer calling and lower monthly spend
  • Number porting service so businesses could keep the numbers clients already knew
  • Network cabling and WiFi design for cleaner office layouts

Those early years taught the team what matters in real offices: power cuts, older buildings, thick walls, and the need to keep a business moving while work is carried on around the installation crew.

More suburbs, more office moves

Over time, NewTel was handling more work in Somerset West, Stellenbosch and Paarl, alongside its Cape Town base. Office relocations became a regular part of the service offering, because growing businesses often outgrew their first premises and needed help moving lines, phones and cabling without long downtime. This was also when after-hours support became a bigger part of the day to day service, especially for clients who could not afford interruptions during trading hours.

Nadia Petersen joined the leadership team in operations, helping to tighten scheduling and the handover process. The company also began placing more emphasis on user training, because a good system only works well if the staff know how to use it properly, and quickly too. Small office teams needed simple explanations, not technical jargon.

Better support for growing teams

As the business matured, NewTel expanded its support model to match the needs of offices that were adding staff, moving between branches or working with hybrid setups. VoIP Solutions Lead Nkosinathi Seleka helped shape clearer call routing, while Anika van Wyk coordinated fibre projects with a focus on planning and timing. This period also brought stronger network monitoring, so issues could be spotted earlier and dealt with before they became a full outage.

For many clients, this was the stage where NewTel moved from being a supplier they called for one job to a partner they relied on through the year. The team dealt with municipal rules around external work, landlord approvals, and the practical issues that come with busy office parks and older commercial buildings. Coastal humidity in areas closer to the bay also meant using sensible materials and neat finishes that would hold up over time.

  • Network monitoring for earlier fault detection
  • After-hours support for urgent changes and repairs
  • Office relocations planned around trading hours
  • Training for reception teams, managers and new staff

A wider footprint, still local in approach

In time, NewTel was supporting offices across Cape Town and beyond, while keeping its base in Century City. The team continued to serve Bellville, Somerset West, Stellenbosch and Paarl, but the work also extended to businesses needing a dependable setup in other parts of South Africa. The focus remained practical: stable fibre, well configured VoIP, and support that answered the phone when clients needed help.

Team growth brought more depth too. Themba Dlamini took charge of technical support, while Zanele Jacobs strengthened customer success and follow-through. That combination meant less back and forth for clients and better continuity when a project moved from installation to live service. It was a busy phase, and at times the load shedding made planning a bit more involved, but the company kept adapting with clear scheduling and backup advice for office systems.

Today: A Century City base serving offices nationwide

Today, NewTel remains focused on small offices that need dependable communication without unnecessary fuss. The business offers fibre installation, VoIP deployment, number porting, WiFi design, network cabling, phone system support, network monitoring, office relocations, after-hours support and user training. Each service is shaped around the realities of South African office life, from shared buildings and security rules to the need for quick fixes when systems are under pressure.

Under Lungile Mthembu's leadership, NewTel supports clients from Century City to sites across South Africa. The focus stays on communication tools for small businesses, with fibre, VoIP and human support when office systems need attention.

The values that shaped the journey

NewTel's history is really a story of staying useful. The company has grown by listening to office managers, business owners and staff who simply needed their calls to go through and their internet to hold steady. That is why the service has remained grounded in responsiveness, planning and clear communication rather than flashy promises.

  • Practical solutions that suit small office budgets
  • Local knowledge of Cape Town and surrounding business areas
  • Support for offices dealing with power interruptions and moving deadlines
  • Clear guidance from first setup through to ongoing support

The aim has stayed the same. Keep businesses connected, keep the setup manageable, and make sure there is someone to call when an office needs help. That steady approach still shapes how the team works today.
